Eating Out

Walking to eat

Burley village is a short walk from our front gate. Turn left out of the gate, left at the road and within a few hundred yards you are at the war memorial marking the centre of the village. In the village there are 2 pubs, The Queens Head & The Burley Inn.

Both offer basic, old fashioned, no frills pub grub.

Also within walking distance

The White Buck is a 25 – 30 minute walk through the forest and offers more ‘gastro’ eating at expected gastro pub prices. The walk is pleasant and the food is good. Turn left out of the gate, cross the tarred road at the end and take one of 2 paths leading up through the (semi urban) forest. At the top of this path/road, you will come out on the main road, opposite the village green (cricket pitch). Cross the road and take the unmade road off to the left after the green. Follow this road with the golf course on your right, past the golf clubhouse on your left, past the Burley Youth centre on your left, for about 10 minutes and you will come to the White Buck on your left. Bookings recommended.

The Burley Manor is a pleasant 15 minute walk from Wayside Cottage. Turn right out of the gate, at the end of the road, cross the main road and walk up through the deer park to the Manor at the end. It is a delightful spot, especially on the terrace on a sunny evening, but the food from the newly refurbished and redesigned restaurant has received mixed reviews.

Local tea rooms, including the Cider House, are good and open during the day, closed in the evenings except for The Farmhouse Tea Room offering an evening meal at a good set menu price

on Saturday nights ONLY during the summer.

Moorhill House, can be a walk, needs to be pre booked.
